You'll Never Know" is a popular song with music written by Harry Warren and the lyrics by Mack Gordon. The song is based on a poem written by a young Oklahoma war bride named Dorothy Fern Norris. The song was introduced in the 1943 movie Hello, Frisco, Hello where it was sung by Alice Faye. The song won the 1943 Academy Award for Best Original Song, one of nine nominated songs that year. It was also performed by Faye in the 1944 film Four Jills in a Jeep.

A single from the album, "You'll Never Know", made the adult contemporary charts. Doherty turned to the stage, making a disastrous start in John Phillips' Man on the Moon (1975). In 1977, he returned to his birthplace, Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he played Shakespeare at the Neptune Theatre under the tutelage of John Neville. This led to television work, including a variety program, Denny's Sho, which ran for one season in 1978. The New Mamas and the Papas was a by-product of John Phillips' desire to "round out the picture of reform" as he awaited sentencing on narcotics charges in 1980. He invited his children Jeffrey and Mackenzie, and Denny Doherty, to join him at the Fair Oaks Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, where he was undergoing rehabilitation.

Denny Doherty memorial. Born in Halifax, in 1940, Dennis Gerrard Stephen Doherty grew up with music in the household, and formed his first band, The Hepsters before he was 16. The quartet played loose renditions of folk standards, and for nearly two years packed the local clubs. It was predominantly a pop-oriented album that incorporated a small orchestra feel, with the singles "Simone," "You'll Never Know," and "Goodnight, Good Morning," the cover of The Isley Brothers' "You've Lost That Feelin'," and the Beatles-esque "Together" and "I'm Home Again. None of the singles made the top 60, but the album was generally well received by the critics, and featured cameo background vocals by both Michelle Phillips and Cass Elliot. Denny Doherty died on January 19, 2007 at his home in Mississauga, Ontario, from a second abdominal aortic aneurysm after going to get the first one removed.

When Denny Doherty died, in January, Michelle Phillips became the last of the Mamas and the Papas, the 60s foursome that made hippie sexy and topped the charts for almost two psychedelic years before breaking up. At 63, the muse of California Dreamin’ tells the real story of her stormy marriage to the group’s leader, John Phillips; her very brief marriage to Dennis Hopper; her liaisons with Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty; and the tangled emotions that bound four musicians-Michelle, John, Denny, and Cass Elliot-for life. I’ll bury you all!, Michelle had screamed at the other three one night in 1966, when they’d (temporarily) evicted her from the group for her romantic transgressions. In pride of place on the coffee table is a photo album of her three grandchildren from daughter Chynna, 39, and actor Billy Baldwin, yet she’s sipping wine in the early afternoon like any self-respecting sybarite.

Denny Doherty was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the youngest of five children. He grew up in Halifax's north end in a staunch Catholic household. His father was a dockworker and Doherty has described his mother as "a housewife and mystic". Doherty and three friends, Richard Sheehan, Eddie Thibodeau, and Mike O'Connell, began their musical career in 1956 with a band called the Hepsters. Two years later they disbanded. In 1960, still in Halifax, Doherty, aged 19, along with Pat LaCroix and Richard Byrne, began a folk group, The Colonials
